3 Methods to attach Single Ended Dreads to Real Dreads

Useful facts when attaching Synthetic Dreads to Real Dreads

• A Install Tool is very useful! With this tool you can easily slide the Single Ended Dread around you own Dread.
• Pay attention to the length of the dreads. Place the Synthetic Dread around a Real Dread that is about the same length. You might need different lengths. The dreads in your neck are shorter than the ones on top of your head.
• Use Dreadshop Sturdy Elastics that won’t break while wearing the dreads. When you use the first method, don’t keep the dreads in for too long. The elastics can “cut” into your dread, which can cause an indentation in the dread. If you want to keep them in for a long time, use method 2 or 3.
• Don’t slide the Synthetic Dread all the way against your scalp, but leave a little space at the base of your dread. This way your roots / regrowth will still have enough space to lock.

Method 1: Elastic band around the Synthetic Dread and your Real Dread

For this method use the Install Tool to slide the Synthetic Dread around your real dread. Slide the Dread up to just below the regrowth of your Dread. Tie the elastic band around the Synthetic dread as well as your own dread.

This method will keep the dread nice and tight in place. It is also ideal when you want to switch colours a lot (and attach them to different dreads each time). When you want to leave in the Synthetic Dreads for a longer period, it can leave an indentation in your dreads, because the elastic band is attached very tightly around your own dreads.

Method 2: Elastic band around the Synthetic Dreadlock

Use the Install Tool again to slide The Synthetic Dread around your own Dread. Slide the Dread up to just below the regrowth of your Dread. This time only tie the elastic band around the Synthetic dread, don’t include your own Dread. Make sure you attach the elastic as close to your Real Dread as possible. This way the Dread is tied securely but there is no tight elastic band around your own Dread.

Method 3: Elastic band around the Synthetic Dreadlock, option 2

This method will give the same result as method 2, but this time first tie the elastic band around the Synthetic Dread, just below the loop of the Dreadlock. Next you use the Install Tool to slide the Synthetic Dread around your own Dread. Slide the Dread up to just below the regrowth of your Dread. Now adjust the elastic band so it is attached as close to your Real Dread as possible. This way the Dread is tied securely but there is no tight elastic band around your own Dread.
