The Starting Point: Searching for Trust & a Style That Fits
When Selma first discovered Dreadshop in 2022, she had already been searching for a while.
She couldn’t find a salon she trusted, and online results didn’t match what she had in mind. So she made a bold decision: getting up at 4:30 AM, traveling from Germany, and spending the whole day in the salon chair just to start her journey.
At her first visit, she chose Synthetic Partial Dreads, a way to finally test the look she had been thinking about for so long.
The First Install: Synthetic Dreads as a “Test Phase”
Like many clients in the beginning of their journey, Selma started with synthetic extensions to explore the style without commitment.
- The Style: Synthetic Partial Locks of Love Dreads
- The Purpose: Testing the look, feel, and lifestyle
- The Reality: Visually she loved it but comfort wise, it didn’t feel completely right
Even though the dreads didn’t fully match her expectations in terms of comfort, something else was already clear: the look itself felt like her.
So instead of stopping, she continued exploring.
The Turning Point: From Experimenting to Committing
Three months later, Selma returned to the salon.
This time, she took the next step: Partial Real Dreads with extensions. And from there, her journey slowly evolved.
Over the following months, she kept coming back, building her style step by step, adding more real dreadlocks each session until she eventually transitioned into a full head of Real Dreads by the end of 2024.
It wasn’t a sudden change. It was a process.
A gradual shift from “trying something new” to “this is my signature look.”

The Transformation: Finding Her Permanent Style
Today, Selma rocks full head of Real Dreadlocks, created and maintained over multiple salon sessions.
What makes her journey special is that it wasn’t rushed. Each step gave her clarity:
- First: discovering the look with synthetic dreads
- Then: testing real dreads in sections
- Finally: committing to a full head of natural Real Dreads
Along the way, she also made another lifestyle shift, letting go of bleaching her natural dark hair and fully embracing her natural base color.
Something she didn’t expect at the start of her journey.

Why This Journey Works
Selma’s story is a great example of how dreadlock transformations don’t need to happen all at once. Instead, they can evolve:
- Test first, decide later: synthetic dreads help you explore the look
- Build gradually: real dreads can be created step by step
- Let your style evolve naturally: your preferences often change once you start wearing them
And most importantly: there is no “perfect starting point.” Only the first step.
Continuing the Journey
Selma now continues to visit the salon for maintenance, making sure her Real Dreads stay healthy and well formed as they mature over time.
It’s not just a hairstyle anymore, it’s part of her identity and routine.
