Reviews, Experiences & Inspiration for Your Dreads
At Dreadshop, every set of dreads tells a unique story. Some of our clients come in with a clear vision for their dread look, others need a little guidance. Many start safe, with natural synthetic dreadlock extensions before exploring different colors, lengths and styles. Some eventually move on to real dreadlocks, while others enjoy switching between synthetic sets. Every customer is different, every story is unique and every experience is special.
On this page, we’d like to share some of these stories, give you a glimpse of what a visit to the Dreadshop Salon feels like, and maybe inspire your own dread journey. Our salon provides professional techniques for all hair types, helping you achieve volume, length and a look that’s truly your own. Scroll through to see the creativity, care and personality behind every Dreadshop transformation.

Simone has been a customer at Dreadshop since 2024 and chose Synthetic Locks of Love on her first visit. She has incredibly fine hair and wanted very much to create length and volume. We succeeded immediately!
The first time Simone visited the salon in Roelofarendsveen, it was a gift from her husband. And she was instantly hooked. It didn't take long before Simone knew for sure that she wanted Real Dreads. Although she has very fine hair, she also has a lot of it, and she was thrilled that this was possible. She took the time to save up for it and, after a year of Synthetic Dreads, opted for Real Dreads with extensions. And she's absolutely thrilled! In her own words: "I'm incredibly happy with my baby dreads! You've really boosted my self-esteem; I feel complete!"
It's a godsend for her, among other things, to be able to do fun things with her hair and no longer have to worry about her hair!
Here's what Simone has to say:
"Diane managed to calm my nerves in just a few minutes in the lovely Dreadshop salon. She turned my short, thin hair into a huge, beautiful mane of synthetic dreads (with some nice fiddling, it's not even painful!) and it really brought out the best in me.
My boyfriend and I are instantly hooked; never without dreads again!"

Because of her thinner hair, real dreads aren't an option for Gea. Synthetic dreads, on the other hand, are a great way to create volume and length, so a visit to our salon in Roelofarendsveen was a logical step.
Gea started with Synthetic dreads in 2023. She did this by choosing some natural colors: Thin Locks of Love in Ash Blonde and Grandma Gray in Back Length, as most of our clients do. Since then, Gea has been visiting us in the salon every few months. And the last few times, she's added a color to her hairstyle, namely Rusty Pink or Midnight, which gives it a completely different vibe! She's not the only one in this; we're increasingly seeing clients opt for this choice.
The base color remains natural, with one or more colors adding a nice touch of variety. Sometimes this is done in consultation with us, but other times, the client has a clear idea of what they want. Just like Gea. We always have a wide selection of Renate's Locks of Love colors in stock.
Gea also notices that her hair has become fuller since she started wearing dreads. A common misconception about dreads is that they're damaging for your hair. However, when dreads are installed correctly, your hair can actually relax while being braided into the dreads, especially if you normally use a lot of products or style your hair regularly. Gea is always thrilled when her dreads are back!

The first time Selma had her dreads done at Dreadshop in 2022, our Affiliate Thera was behind the salon chair. Thera was guestworking at Dreadshop and was receiving Selma from Germany. Selma couldn't find a salon she trusted, and the online results weren't what she was looking for. She was happy to get up at 4:30 a.m. and spend a whole day visiting Dreadshop. She'll simply take it easier the next day.
Selma opted for Synthetic Partial Dreads during her very first visit. And, to be honest, she wasn't entirely happy with them. The dreads weren't comfortable; they just didn't feel right.
Nevertheless, Selma chose to keep her dreads in because she really liked the look and, at so, she decided she wanted Real Dreads.
So, three months later, she returned to the salon and had her first row of Partial Real Dreads with extensions installed. This process continued for several months afterward again and again, until Selma had a full head of Real Dreads by the end of 2024. Besides beautiful dreads, it gave her the beautiful, easy hairstyle she was looking for. One thing that took some getting used to; she used to bleach her naturally dark hair, which she hasn't done since getting Real Dreads. She's now happy with her natural color!

All the way from Belgium Muriël has always loved dreads. In 2025, she visited the Dreadshop Salon for the first time. She wanted to create a lot of volume, something that with her own beautiful, full hair made perfect sense.
Muriël is a colorful person who started by getting Synthetic Partials, which she immediately loved. She was hooked! The first time she wore 2 rows with the Thin Locks of Love in Ash blonde, with some Rusty Pink in back length. The next two rows of Partial Dreads quickly followed, and this time her husband came along, we added a bit darker colors to the set: Hazelnut Dream and Dark Chocolate. At her next appointment in a few months, she'll be walking out with a full head of Synthetic Dreads! Muriël has also been considering real dreads for a while, perhaps on the appointment after the next one.
Muriël usually schedules her next appointment right away while she is in the salon, we're noticing that more and more clients are planning their appointments in advance. The motto is, "That way, the appointments are arranged and they're guaranteed a spot." The time between appointments is often roughly the same for both Synthetic Dreads and Real Dreads. And we're still incredibly proud to welcome someone from Belgium or Germany to our salon every week!

Whenever Terry comes to Dreadshop and it's not raining, he always rides in from Zoetermeer on his motorcycle. He's been doing this since 2015. A year earlier, he had his dreads done by someone else, but Google finally led him to Dreadshop for his first maintenance.
Shortly afterward, he had his dreads cut off, but after a while, he missed them and returned to Dreadshop to have new dreads installed.
It's the good vibe at the salon that still appeals to him after all these years, which is why he has his dreads maintained at Dreadshop every three months. Terry started with dreads because he liked the look. He's since convinced his nine-year-old daughter, Zoë, to get dreads. Or did she convince him? ;) And Zoë is very happy with them too. Now she only has to sit still once every three months and no longer has to have her hair combed every day, which was time-consuming and sometimes painful for Zoë. Father and daughter always make separate appointments. And when Zoë's dreads are being maintained, Terry uses those hours to do some work in the salon.
After all these years, he still gets compliments and questions about his dreads. Like whether they're dirty and how to wash them, for example. He patiently explains the answer every time. In 2023, Terry had quite some length of his dreads cut off at Dreadshop. He had some hesitation beforehand, but he's never regretted it. Will he have his dreads shortened again? He doesn't know yet. Zoë really wants longer dreads than her father, and he doesn't want to lose that competition.
