Washing Dreadlocks
Unfortunately, there are still negative beliefs about Dreadlocks. Many people think that Dreads are dirty and that they stink. People also think that you cannot wash Dreads. But that is absolutely not true. In fact, when you wash your Dreads, this actually speeds up the locking process when you have Real Dreads. Your Dreads need to be washed well!
There are many different Shampoos for Dreadlocks that allow you to wash your Dreadlocks without damaging them.
So your Dreads will be nice and fresh and well cared for when you wash them regularly.
You can even give your Real Dreadlocks a deep cleanse with a detox once every six months, so that you are able to clean your Dreads really well.
Wash your Dreads 1 time a week and if it’s really necessary 2 times
For both Real Dreads and Synthetic Dreads we advise you to wash your Dreads once a week. Washing will release hair faster and that is just what you don't want when you wear Dreads.
With Synthetic Dreads your Dreads become heavier, then they will sag faster and that is of course not what you want.
It is also better for your scalp to wash your hair less often. We are often used to wash our hair often, because the cleaner the better, but this is less pleasant for your scalp.
That is why our advice is to wash your Dreads once a week and if it’s really necessary twice.
