The crochet hook method is perfectly suited for making dreads from Henlon hair; with this method, you create dreads that look realistic and last a long time.
Various crochet hooks for different purposes
We offer various crochet hooks in our webshop. Which one is best to use when making dreads?
Single crochet hook 0.03 inch / 0.75 mm
This is the most commonly used crochet hook. For crocheting your dreads after backcombing the hair. With this hook, you can work quite precisely because you have a single needle.
Single crochet hook 0.05 inch / 1.25 mm
This size hook is perfect when making ombré dreads: dreads that transition into another color, or very long dreads.
With this slightly larger hook, you can more easily pull the hair through the dread when adding a second color to your dread to create an ombré effect.
Or, if you want to make very long dreads and one length of henlon hair isn't enough, you can simply attach a second length of hair to your dread with this larger needle, allowing you to make your dreads as long as you like. Once you have pulled the hair through your dread, use your 0.03 inch / 0.75mm crochet hook(s) again to crochet your dread.
Double crochet hook 0.03 inch / 0.75 mm
When making thicker dreads, a double crochet hook can be nice for crocheting your dreads. Especially suitable for dreads that are 0.39 inch / 1 cm or thicker. Because you work with two hooks at the same time, crocheting goes a bit faster. If you are making dreads for the first time, the single crochet hook is a bit easier to use.
Triple crochet hook 0.03 inch / 0.75 mm
This handle with 3 hooks is nice when making very thick dreads, especially for dreads that are 0.59 inch / 1.5 cm or thicker. Because you have three hooks, crocheting goes faster. If you are making dreads for the first time, the single crochet hook is a bit easier to use.
Single crochet hook 0.02 inch / 0.6 mm
This finer crochet hook is pleasant when crocheting very thin dreads. Especially for dreads that are thinner than 0.19 inch / 0.5 cm. Because the needle is thinner, it does take a bit more effort to dread the hair. The 0.03 inch / 0.75mm crochet hook is also perfectly suitable for making thin dreads.
