Extending your Real Dreads with loose human hair vs. Human hair Locks of Love vs. Synthetic Locks of Love

You want to have Dreads made from your own hair, but your hair isn't very long. Or you already have Dreads made from your own hair, but you find them too short. It is possible to extend your Dreads, but what options are there exactly? We list them for you below.

Extending Real Dreads with loose Human Hair

In the Dreadshop Salon, we usually use loose Human Hair to extend Dreads. Using loose human hair gives the most beautiful natural effect.

Advantages:
- By mixing different shades of human hair, you can match almost any (natural shade) hair color, making the extensions look very natural.
- You can extend Dreads of any size.
- Any desired length of extension is possible.
- Fuller ends are achievable.
- Extensions in a non-natural color is also possible; you can use a light blonde color for extensions and then dye the Dreads yourself in the color of your choice. When the color fades, you can dye the Dreadlocks again or in another color. Read more here.
- Extensions with loose human hair will mature similarly to Dreads made from your own hair. Although extensions may mature a bit faster and become more compact, you will have fewer loose hairs compared to the (new) Dreads made from your own hair.
- The result looks very natural.

Disadvantages:
- The installation takes longer because the extension is crocheted into a Dread on the spot.

Extending with Human hair Locks of Love

It is also possible to attach ready-made Dreads to your own Dreadlocks.
If you use dreads made from human hair, it will look the most natural.

Advantages:
- Extending the Dreads is quicker than with hair because you only need to attach the Dread to your own Real Dreads.
- When extending your own Real Dreadlocks, it's easier to use our ready-made Human hair Locks of Love than working with loose hair.
- The Human Hair Dreads will also mature like your Dreads because they are made from real human hair.
- Fuller ends are also possible.

Disadvantages:
- Two thicknesses are available in the Human Hair Locks of Love. If these thicknesses do not match the thickness of your Dreads, it may not look as good.
- We have fixed colors of Dreads in our assortment, so the color of the Dreadlocks may not exactly match your hair color. You can opt for an ombre look by choosing an extension in a lighter color. It's possible to dye these Dreads, but we do not recommend it.
- The Human Hair Locks of Love are available in a length of 50-55 cm only. It is possible to add another Dread to the length if you've used one to extend your Dreadlocks.

Extending with Synthetic Locks of Love

If your budget does not allow for using Human Hair Dreads, or you want a very long extension, you can use our Synthetic Renate's Locks of Love to extend your Dreadlocks.

Advantages:
- Your Dreads are extended more quickly because you only need to attach the Dread to your own Dreads.
- When extending your own Real Dreadlocks, it's easier to use our ready-made Locks of Love.
- The color of the Synthetic Locks of Love will not fade. If you want a bright color and wish to maintain it, this is a good option.
- These Dreads are available in two lengths: 50 and 70 cm.

Disadvantages:
- Synthetic Dreads will remain more or less the same because they are made of synthetic hair. Dreads made from your own hair will change, take shape and mature. The difference will become more visible over time.
- Two thicknesses are available in the Synthetic Locks of Love. If these thicknesses do not match the thickness of your Dreadlocks, it may not look as good.
- Although we have a variety of different color Dreads in our assortment, the color of the Dreads may not exactly match your hair color. You can opt for an ombre look by choosing an extension in a lighter color.
- The Dreads may not stay in place as well because they are made of synthetic hair.
